Higher Education

  • There is an ongoing assault on the institutions of higher education. Our divided country has been taught that college is either your only way to success, or a complete waste of money intended to indoctrinate you in some vague liberal plot. The simple truth is that colleges and universities are not the path for everyone. That does not take away that they certainly are the path for countless millions.

America needs our Colleges and Universities. It needs them to be affordable, accessible, and as diverse as the People of this vast melting pot. America also needs Vocational and trade schools. Not just in the cities, but in the rural areas. We need to provide pathways to stability and to build generational wealth for People in every corner of this county, not just in the cities.

The Post 9/11 G.I. Bill has received overwhelming bipartisan support, while proving the return on investment. This program pays for tuition and class materials, while providing additional financial assistance so Veterans are able to have enough of a safety net to actually take the time to attend classes and study, without working two or three jobs. This program has saved countless lives, empowered countless others, and has been an objective boon to the nation’s economy. This program should be emulated, beginning with communities and People furthest below the poverty line. For the unhoused, and disabled. Whether you have passion in studying art, nursing, coding, construction, or agriculture, the circumstances of your birth and bank account should not hold you back from the pursuit of happiness. Especially when that pursuit results in an immensely skilled overall workforce. Education cannot “trickle down” it must be accessible to all, equally.

I advocate for Unionizing both faculty and the student organizations at existing Colleges and Universities. They are the same age I was for both combat deployments; they are not children, yet they are being told what to say, when to say it, how loud they can say it, how long to say it, and only within the designated “Freedom of Expression zones.” The 18-24 year age group will always remain the future of our country. It is beyond time to provide resources, not just to the Universities, but to the students. Empower this next generation, and each subsequent one, not to rely on University Presidents and Leadership teams when injustices rain down, but to speak to each other, listen to each other, and create solutions together.
