Veterans

  • We have always been underpaid, underappreciated, and undercared for. We are used as photo ops for political grandstanding but the suicides speak for themselves. We have never had the resources to survive, let alone thrive. The few legislatively mandated assistance programs like the Post 9-11 GI Bill, and the VR&E have been crucial for so many Veterans like me, but even those are at risk now.

The VA has never been given the support it required. The doctors, nurses, facility and administrative staff, and everyone in between have done incredible work with what they have, but at cost to themselves. Understaffed means both overworked and underpaid for those who feel it is their mission to stay. While facilities cost up to $2 Billion and boast state of the art everything, they are filled with suffering Vets and empty offices.

When our ancestors had the audacity to march, nonviolently, on Washington simply to demand their own promised pension, after returning from WWI, they were ridden down by U.S. Army Cavalry. Their camps were burned, and Veterans died. Today, they simply ignore our calls, texts, emails, and protests. The hospitals are understaffed, the shelters unfunded and overflowing, and the kitchens bare; today they just wait for us to die.
